Gaza Flood Emergency

In spite of its rich heritage and history of contributions to the global world, Palestine is associated with ongoing conflict. The country is split between the West Bank and Gaza.

This area houses two million people crammed into 365km2 . This is considered one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The conflict has left people trapped and dependent upon external aid for survival.

Air strikes, military action ,checkpoints and harsh control systems are the constant. Claiming both lives and people’s hopes for their futures. Schools, hospitals and infrastructure are routinely ruined. Electricity is scarce and unreliable. The water is contaminated and unsafe.

  • 52% rate of unemployment
  • 25% living in severe poverty
  • 96% of water supply unsafe for human consumption

How we are helping in Palestine

We work with our partners on the ground to deliver aid and development in order to support Palestinian people to live healthier lives with more opportunities. Our priorities include:

  • Ensuring people have clean water and adequate sanitation
  • Providing stable food supply to vulnerable families
  • Improving prospects with livelihood support and skills training
  • Reducing maternal and infant mortality rates through improved healthcare programmes

We believe in doing all we can to help those caught in the conflict. Our sustainable aid solutions are designed to restore the human rights of Palestinian people.

Water desalination:

  • We have ensured over 190,000 people have access to clean water
  • Over 100 water units installed and rehabilitated
  • Over 500,000 litres of safe drinking water provided each day to schools, kindergartens and health centres

Healthcare:

Through our partner we have provided:

  • Neonatal healthcare to 4,000 babies born in the Gaza strip
  • Provided specialised training to 200 medical staff
  • Delivered life-saving equipment including incubators and ventilation machines

Livelihood support:

The sustainability of our programmes is important to us as a way to provide people with dignity, independence and hope. Our farming support project has met the needs of 140 local farmers in Gaza since March 2018. These farmers have been supported to establish a farming chain that can redistribute food to over 1,000 local families. Our unique program has:

  • Helped those living under blockade by restoring the agriculture contributing to the local economy
  • Supported local resilience and progress
  • Met the food needs of more than 5,000 people
