During Ramadan, Muslims fast from the time of Fajr (the dawn prayer) to sunset as ordained by Allah (SWT). There are countless narrations that discuss Ramadan in great detail. There are great rewards for fasting in Ramadan as is narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A):

What is Ramadan?
The holy month of Ramadan is one of the most eagerly awaited months in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan always comes bearing gifts and blessings that are there for the taking.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. There are many reasons why this month carries more importance for Muslims than others, one of them being that it was the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed. Also, Lailat-ul-Qadr, a night worth a thousand months, comes in Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) stated himself that all the gates of paradise open during Ramadan and they stay open throughout the month while all gates of hell remain closed.
A TIME TO FAST AND FEAST
“Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness”
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said:”… whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Imam Bukhari).
The conclusion of Ramadan brings about the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr; a three-day celebration during which Muslims feast and give gifts to families and friends.
We at Muslim Aid are extremely excited to welcome Ramadan 2016. We pray that Muslims around the world fast throughout this blessed month and attain the blessings of Lailat-ul-Qadr.
