Let Your Warmth Shield The Cold

There are over 70 million men, women, and children all over the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict – and now, because of this, they are stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty. Every single year, winter brings a deathly threat to their lives, but basic necessities like nourishing food and heat can give life-changing support to mothers, children, and families in dire need.

Studies show that extreme heat and cold killed 5.08 million people on an average every year from 2000-2019. Of this, 4.6 million deaths on an average occurred annually due to extreme cold while 0.48 million deaths occurred due to extreme heat.

Verse from Qur’an: And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.” – Quran, 63:10

Every winter, the MAUSA team works hard to make a difference in the lives of those in greatest need. This year — along with distributing winter packages (blankets, winter jackets, sweaters, socks, gloves, hats, shawls), warm nutritious meals, and firewood for heat — we are also rebuilding homes in Pakistan for flood victims and renovating our Orphan and Widow Center for Syrian refugees.

The war in Syria reversed two decades of educational progress for Syria’s youth and many refugees are still living in extreme poverty.

MAUSA is creating a Widow and Orphan Center for Syrian refugees in Gaziantep, Turkey. The center will ensure that all of their needs are met with a comfortable living space, nourishing meals, clothing and a quality education.

We are currently on the ground, working with local partners to rebuild homes for Pakistan’s flood victims, and also provide clean water and food packages to those in greatest need.

More than 600,000 Pakistanis have been forced to move to IDP camps, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

You can help change these numbers.

MAUSA is distributing winter packages to families in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jammu Kashmir, Palestine, Yemen, Nepal, and Bosnia, as well as Syrian and Uyghur Refugees in Turkey — but we need your support.

For just $75, you can provide a winter package that includes clothing (coats, hats, trousers, blouse, scarves, shoes) and a blanket to 330 orphaned families in the Gaza Strip, Jabalia, Gaza, and Rafah.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You gain no victory or livelihood except through (the blessings and invocations of) the poor amongst you.” (Bukhari)

Their needs definitely deserve a spot on our list.

While we prepare for this coming Ramadan by creating lists of how to attain spiritual growth, let’s make sure to keep our fasting brothers and sisters in mind
