Significance Of The Day Of Arafah

A Day To Repent, Reflect, & Give

The Day of Arafah, falling on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, is a sacred gift, a day unlike any other. It is the soul of Dhul Hijjah. It is the day the Prophet (PBUH) stood at Mount Arafat, surrounded by believers, gave the last sermon, and pleaded with Allah (SWT) for mercy, not only for them, but for all of us.

Whether you are standing on Mount Arafat or thousands of miles away, this day is yours too. Arafah invites every heart to turn back to its Creator. It is a day to humble ourselves, to seek forgiveness, to fast, to pray, and to give.

The Prophet (PBUH) said,

“There is no day in which Allah frees a greater number of His slaves from the Hellfire than the Day of Arafah.”

(Muslim)

On this day, Allah (SWT) draws near to His servants, listens to their whispers, and accepts their repentance. For those not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafah brings the reward of expiating sins from the year before and the year to come. It is a day of deep forgiveness, and a day of giving.

Pray Deeply

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

“The best supplication is that of the Day of `Arafah, and the best thing that I and other Prophets before me said, is: La ilaha illa allahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamdu wa huwa `ala kulli shai’in qadeer (There is no god but Allah alone. He has no partners. To Him belong the sovereignty and all praise. He has power over all things.)”

(Al-Tirmidhi)
